New installation of Wavin Q-Bic Plus
In the wake of all the flooding in Europe recently, many residential and commercial buildings were hit hard by stormwater damage. The effects of climate change on rainfall levels and frequency has forced many municipalities and companies to consider long term solutions for water infiltration and attenuation. In Norway, Wavin has installed a Q-Bic Plus infiltration system at the new football stadium for Oslo's home team, Vålerenga.
The Wavin Q-Bic Plus system at the new will Vålerenga stadium will be the largest Wavin has installed in Norway and the first stage is located on approximately 1200qbm, positioned just outside the stadium – under the square. When the entire project is completed, this will be an important, high-profile installation. Everyone's excited about it: Marthinsen & Duvholt, the customer, Heidenreich, the supplier and us at Wavin.
Just to put things in perspective, a total of 2352 Wavin Q-Bic Plus units will be built in three floors. The system will be 16.8m wide, 33.6m long and 1.8m high. It will allow for all the stormwater from the rooftop areas of the stadium, from the football field and from the park area to be collected and brought down through the plastic piping system. The Q-Bic Plus system is modular and easy to install. The system has integrated connectors making the use of clips and pins to stack and connect the units a thing of the past.
Another thing to consider is that the workers' risk of injury is significantly reduced because they don't have to install 2-meter long concrete pipes. According to Arne Gustav Hageland, Project Manager for Marthinsen & Duvholt, "We quickly realized that Q-Bic Plus would be easy for our construction crew to handle." And, indeed, in just one hour, 336 units were assembled – by 5 men. That's 14% of the plant. "At this pace," said Wavin Norway's Product Manager Civils & Infrastructure, Vidar Handal, "the estimated total time to install the system on this huge facility will be only 33 hours."

The Q-Bic Plus does not disappoint. It is so incredibly easy to have a robot camera inspect the tank. From only one inspection opening, the robot can travel through the entire facility – in every direction. Additionally, the Q-Bic Plus maintains the groundwater level in the area. By laying down a grade 3 fiber textile at the bottom, it ensures that a portion of the water is filtered and pulled to the soil.

Indeed, Q-Bic Plus is perfectly suited to stormwater management for larger buildings and housing developments. And Arne Gustav Hageland agrees.
