And what a year it has been! Wavin looks back on 12 months of innovation, spectacular events, dynamic marketing campaigns and some of the newest additions to the Wavin team. Here’s a bird’s eye view of some of what we’ve been up to this past year.
Roos Masela joined the Wavin Group as the Group Communications Manager. In her own words:
Wavin is on a fast train. After a year at Wavin, I can say that I’m on the train, enjoying it fully – at full speed. So many opportunities to grasp, happy to be part of an international, energetic, versatile team. So many stories to tell; being part of the story and able to tell the story makes me happy.
The Wavin teamed up with the Social Media Dokters, headed by head “surgeon” Nicoline Maes and her dream team of social mediaphiles and writers. They have been providing the written content for Wavin Group and spreading it across all the channels – Website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and much, much more.
Water is essential to the work that we do and, as such, we are wholeheartedly committed to using water responsibly. In celebration of World Water Day, whose theme this year was "Better Water, Better Jobs," Wavin made it a point to shine a spotlight on its sustainable water management solutions and how these practices have the power to revitalise jobs and positively impact the livelihoods of workers.
King’s Day (Koningsdag) is a national holiday in the Netherlands, marking the birth of King Willem-Alexander on the 27th of April. Country-wide, street parties and market stalls were filled with locals and visitors alike, many of whom were dressed in orange – in honour of the Royal House of Orange-Nassau. The city center of Zwolle (hometown of Wavin's headoffice) was the backdrop for the Grand Parade, focusing on regional collaboration and innovation.
Wavin’s technology and innovation was front and center throughout the day. The beating of large drums made of Wavin Opti-Rib sewer and stormwater pipes from Wavin Denmark were part of the live music spectacle that wowed the crowds. In fact, each of the Royal princesses received their very own Wavin-made drum (smaller versions of the big drums used in the show)!
Wavin launched Revit content packages for BIM with integrated intelligent assistance. With this intelligent assistance you can reach a complete 'as-built' pipe system in the fastest way possible, significantly reducing time spent on design.
The Wavin Revit packages will allow users to reach a 100% accurate representation of the way piping systems will actually be installed; easily and without the use of product catalogues. The package also features a fully integrated Bill of Materials. The launch has been very well received by new and existing customers.
Flooding has become a serious problem in Europe. Climate change is causing a shift in precipitation patterns around the world. As the globe heats up, the atmosphere holds more moisture and rainfalls become more intense. The challenge then becomes how to handle all of the storm water. We can't stop the rain, but we do offer foolproof local solutions.
Wavin developed the world's first storm water infiltration units. We have built a significant reputation for breakthrough innovations in plastic pipe systems and solutions. Our infiltration units answer the intensified need to handle the peaks in rainfall and control the rainwater discharge so that it can slowly permeate the surrounding soil. Wavin's intelligent rainwater management solution promotes sustainability, while effectively reducing damage to buildings and efficiently minimizing the threat to public health and safety.
JULY to SEPTEMBER
Two words summed up mid-to-late-summer at Wavin: Gear Up. Wavin developed a plan for the first ever European plumbers’ campaign – targeted to plumbers and MEP installers. The chosen theme was “Gear Up with Wavin” as Wavin delivers the perfect day for the installer. John the Plumber was the campaign “mascot” and was featured throughout the social media campaign blitz, including posters and videos. The promotion was set to run for three (3) months in participating outlets around Europe, commencing in the first week of September.
Wavin’s Gear Up campaign was launched during the first week of September. It had many exciting twists and turns. Valuable information was exchanged, and the campaign had lots of interactive activities… and the opportunity to win great prizes. There were instant prizes, weekly and monthly prizes — and at the end of the campaign, there would be a draw for the grand prize.
Some serious work was done on the roof of Wavin’s Headquarters in Hardenberg, the Netherlands, this summer. We are now the proud owner of 150 m2 of brand new solar panels, installed by DGB energy. The installation of the new solar panels brings us one step closer to achieving our internal sustainability goals. After all, we not only supply systems that contribute to a cleaner and safer environment, we also do our best to work energy efficient and sustainable ourselves.
Julia Thieke joined the Wavin Group as European Product Manager/Foul Water Systems, where she earlier worked for Wavin in Germany. Here is her perspective:
“A job is what you do when you are told what to do; It is showing up at the factory, following instructions, meeting specs, and being managed. And guess what: Someone can always do your job a little better or faster or cheaper than you can. A job might be difficult, it might require skills - but it's a job. Your art is what you do when no one can tell you exactly how to do it. Your art is the act of taking personal responsibility, challenging the status quo, and changing people. I call the process of doing art ‘work’. It's possible to have a job and do the work, too. In fact, that's how you become a linchpin. The job is not the work!” (modified quote from Seth Godin, entrepreneur, blogger and marketing guru)
According to Julia:
I would like to become a linchpin within Wavin by supporting my colleagues, proposing new directions and pushing forward the value of our products and services marketed. I look forward to a challenging and exciting journey!
Wilko Vennegeerts joined the Wavin Group as European Product Manager/Soil & Waste. Here are his words of wisdom:
The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome.
Wilko continues: “I like new challenges and problem solving by looking at things from various angles, as well as getting to know better the backgrounds of the subject I am involved in. However, one cannot achieve a successful outcome without the support of a great team. The Wavin Group has always supported me in this, providing me with great mentors along the way and allowing for my continuous growth and development within the company. And thanks to all my hardworking colleagues over the last 15 years, we have managed to avoid the definition above. I am looking forward to a great start to 2017.”
Closure Gear Up campaign
In December, the Wavin Gear Up campaign closed on a high note. What made this campaign different was the combined online/offline approach. The use of social media enabled us to reach the end market: the plumbers. The challenge was to get the conversation started, but boy did we get more than we bargained for! For example, we struck a few nerves with our website article “Where have all the plumbers gone?” and this was posted before the campaign was even launched! The level of response was off the charts. We engaged an online community of installers and they had a lot to say. Gear Up could not have been a success without the active support, dedication and enthusiasm of each of the OCs. And, as the Social Media Dokters will attest: “Teamwork makes the dream work.”
These are just a few of the many highlights for Wavin Group in 2016. We are deeply grateful to each and every member of the Wavin team and, of course, our customers. And to those who are reading and learning about us for the first time, we thank you for your interest and encourage you to keep up with our latest news. We look forward to 2017 as the beginning of an exciting new chapter to the Wavin story.
Good health, happy times and prosperity to all!
